The Trikāya Translation Committee is dedicated to translating the profound spiritual teachings of Buddhism and other Eastern wisdom traditions, as well as the vast uncharted wealth of ancient literature more broadly, into modern languages such as English.

LANGUAGES

We work with numerous Asian and European languages.

The Trikāya Translation Committee conducts translation and research in the following languages:

ASIAN LANGUAGES

  1. Tibetic: Classical Tibetan, Modern Literary Tibetan, Colloquial Tibetan, Ladakhi, Balti, Dzongkha (Bhutanese)
     

  2. East Asian: Classical Chinese, Modern Chinese, Classical Japanese, Modern Japanese, Korean, Vietnamese
     

  3. North Indic (Indo-Aryan): Sanskrit, Pāḷi, Hindi, Urdu, Nepali (Gorkhali), Marathi, Odia, Sinhala
     

  4. South Indic (Dravidian): Telugu
     

  5. Iranic: Classical Persian, Farsi
     

  6. Others: Newar (Nepal Bhasa)


WESTERN LANGUAGES

  1. Germanic: English, Danish 
     

  2. Romance: Spanish, Portuguese, French, Romanian

WHO WE ARE

Composed of an interdisciplinary team of translators, scholars, academics, spiritual teachers, religious clergy and advanced specialists in a variety of fields, from both Asia and the Western world, the Trikāya Translation Committee advocates a holistic and culturally sensitive approach to the practice of translation, which aims to bridge Eastern and Western traditions.

OUR VISION

The Trikāya Translation Committee takes a multicultural, multilingual, international and interfaith approach to our research and translation work.

By including important but often overlooked voices from the native Himalayan communities and elsewhere throughout Asia, as well as recognized specialists from the West, the Trikāya Translation Committee promotes a linguistically accurate, intellectually well-grounded and culturally authentic approach to the theory and practice of literary translation.

The Trikāya Translation Committee is an international coalition of talents and skills dedicated to translating and interpreting the vast literature of Tibetan and other Asian languages, both classic and modern.

Our team is culturally diverse, interreligious and multidisciplinary.

OUR HISTORY

Seeing the need to bring together disparate talents and unique cultural perspectives together for creative collaboration in the field of literary translation, the Trikāya Translation Committee was formed in 2021.

We have the experience and skills necessary to tackle just about every type of translation project that comes our way.

Due to our high standards of comprehensive research and translation, the Committee strives to represent all schools of Buddhism, as well as other spiritual traditions.

In order to build a strong foundation for intercultural dialogue and authentic native perspectives, the Committee actively seeks out talent from various cultural backgrounds, ethnicities and nationalities.

In addition to translation skills, the Committee also emphasizes knowledge of literature, linguistics, history, religion and philosophy.
