The Concise Yoga of the Guru Inseparable from Avalokiteśvara

གོང་ས་བཅུ་བཞི་པ་ཆེན་པོའི་གསུང་བྱིན་ཅན། བླ་མ་དང་སྤྱན་རས་གཟིགས་དབྱེར་མེད་ཀྱི་རྣལ་འབྱོར་མདོར་བསྡུས་ཉམས་སུ་ལེན་པར་འདོད་པས་སྐྱབས་སེམས་སྔོན་དུ་བཏང་སྟེ།
If you would like to practice the short, concise version of the Yoga of the Guru Inseparable from Avalokiteśvara, which is the enlightened speech of His Holiness the Great 14th Dalai Lama and imbued with his blessings, begin by first going for Refuge and generating Bodhicitta. [The common Refuge and Bodhicitta Prayer has been included below.]
སངས་རྒྱས་ཆོས་དང་ཚོགས་ཀྱི་མཆོག་རྣམས་ལ།
sanggyay ch’ö dang ts’ok kyi ch’ok nam la To the Buddha, the Dharma, and the Supreme Assembly of the Sangha,
།བྱང་ཆུབ་བར་དུ་བདག་ནི་སྐྱབས་སུ་མཆི།
jangch’up bardu dak ni kyap su ch’i I go for refuge until enlightenment is reached.
།བདག་གིས་སྦྱིན་སོགས་བགྱིས་པའི་ཚོགས་རྣམས་ཀྱིས།
dak gii jin sok gyiipai ts’ok nam kyii By the accumulations of merit and wisdom I gain from practicing generosity and so on,
།འགྲོ་ལ་ཕན་ཕྱིར་སངས་རྒྱས་འགྲུབ་པར་ཤོག །
dro la p’en ch’ir sanggyay druppar shok May I attain Buddhahood in order to benefit all living beings.
།ཅེས་པ་འདི་ནི་ཇོ་བོ་རྗེ་དཔལ་ལྡན་ཨ་ཏི་ཤས་གསུངས་སོ།། །།

༄༅། །ན་མོ་ཨཱ་རྱ་ལོ་ཀེ་ཤྭ་རཱ་ཡ།
NAMO ĀRYA LOKEŚVARĀYA.
Homage to the Noble Lokeśvara (Ārya Avalokiteśvara).
རང་གི་སྤྱི་བོར་པད་ཟླའི་སྟེང།
rang gi chiwor paydai teng
Above the crown of my head, on top of a lotus and moon disc,
།དྲིན་ཅན་རྩ་བའི་བླ་མ་དང།
drinchen tsawai lama dang Is the kind Root Guru,
།དབྱེར་མེད་འཕགས་མཆོག་འཇིག་རྟེན་དབང།
yermey p’akch’ok jigten wang Inseparable from the Supreme Noble One, the Mighty Master of the Universe, Avalokiteśvara.
།ཞལ་གཅིག་ཕྱག་བཞིའི་དང་པོ་གཉིས།
zhel chik ch’ak zhi dangpo nyii He has one face and four arms; his first two hands
།ཐལ་སྦྱར་འོག་མ་ཤེལ་ཕྲེང་དང་།
t’eljar ökma shelt’reng dang Are joined together at the palms, while his bottom two hands hold a crystal rosary,
།རབ་རྒྱས་པད་དཀར་སྡོང་བུ་འཛིན།
rapgyay paykar dongbu dzin And a fully bloomed white lotus by its stem.
།ཞབས་ཟུང་མི་ཤིགས་སྐྱིལ་ཀྲུང་ཚུལ།
zhapzung mishik kyiltrung ts’ul His two legs rest in the indestructible cross-legged posture.
།གསལ་རྫོགས་མཚན་དཔེའི་ཟླ་གཞོན་སྐུ།
seldzok ts’enpéi dazhön ku His body is luminous and perfect like the full moon, replete with all the marks and signs of Buddhahood,
།དར་དང་རིན་ཆེན་རྒྱན་གྱིས་ཀླུབས།
dar dang rinch’en gyen gyii lup And covered with ornaments of silk and precious gems.
།རྡོ་རྗེ་གསུམ་མཚན་ཧཱུཾ་འོད་ཀྱིས།
dorjé sum ts’en hūng öd kyii
Through the light from the HŪṂs which mark his Three Vajras of body, speech and mind,
།མཆོག་གསུམ་མ་ལུས་སྤྱན་དྲངས་བལྟིམས།
ch’oksum malü chendrang tim The Three Jewels are summoned forth in their entirety, which then dissolve into him.
།སྐྱབས་གནས་ཀུན་འདུས་ངོ་བོར་གྱུར།
kyapnay kündü ngowor gyur He thus becomes the essence of all sources of refuge, their very embodiment in which they all unite.
།དྲི་བྲལ་ལྷུན་རྫོགས་དངོས་གྲུབ་གཏེར།
dridrel lhündzok ngödrup ter Treasury of spiritual attainments (siddhis), spontaneously perfect and free of defilement,
།བླ་མ་ལྷ་ལ་གུས་ཕྱག་འཚལ།
lama lha la gü ch’akts’el I pay homage with devotion to the Guru and the Deity.
།ཀུན་བཟང་མཆོད་སྤྲིན་རྒྱ་མཚོས་མཆོད།
künzang chödtrin gyats’ö ch’öd I present an ocean of Samantabhadra’s clouds of offering.
།ནོངས་པ་གང་བགྱིས་བཤགས་ཤིང་སྡོམ།
nongpa gang gyii shak shing dom I confess and vow to refrain from any wrongdoing I have committed.
།གསང་གསུམ་མཛད་པར་རྗེས་ཡི་རང།
sangsum dzaypar jey yirang I rejoice in the enlightened deeds of your Three Secrets of body, speech and mind.
།ཟབ་རྒྱས་ཆོས་ཆར་འབེབས་པར་བསྐུལ།
zapgyay ch’öch’ar beppar kul I request that you bring down a rain of vast and profound Dharma.
།བསྐལ་བརྒྱར་མི་གཡོ་རྟན་བཞུགས་གསོལ།
kelgyar miyo tenzhuk söl I pray that you may abide with unshakeable stability for a hundred eons.
།དགེ་ཚོགས་བྱང་ཆུབ་ཆེན་པོར་བསྔོ།
géts’ok jangch’up ch’enpor ngo I dedicate my accumulated virtue to great enlightenment.
།ཐུགས་སྲོག་ཧྲཱིཿཡིག་སྔགས་ཕྲེང་ལས།
t’uks’ok hūng yik ngakt’reng lay Light emanates from the mantra garland encircling HRĪH, the seed syllable at the heart-center of the Deity,
།འོད་འཕྲོས་མ་དག་སྣོད་བཅུད་སྦྱངས།
ödtr’ö madak nödchüd jang Which cleanses and purifies the impure environment of the universe and its inhabitants, all sentient beings.
།འགྲོ་ཀུན་ཕྱག་ན་པདྨོ་ཡི།
dro kün ch’ak na paymo yi All living beings are thereby established in the supreme state,
།གོ་འཕང་མཆོག་ལ་འགོད་པར་གྱུར།
gop’ang ch’ok la gödpar gyur
The majestic level of Padmapāṇi, Holder of the Lotus.
།ཅེས་བཟླས་དམིགས་དང་འབྲེལ་ཡིག་དྲུག
།ཨོཾ་མ་ཎི་པདྨེ་ཧཱུྃ༔
ཅི་ནུས་བཟླ།
Then recite the Six Syllable Mantra, OṂ MAṆI PADME HŪṂ (Tibetan pronunciation: OṂ MAṆI PAYME HŪNG or OṂ MAṆI PÉME HŪNG), in combination with the above visualization for the recitation. Recite as much as possible.
བླ་མ་རྗེ་བཙུན་སྤྱན་རས་གཟིགས།
lama jétsün chenrayzik
Guru Avalokiteśvara, Illustrious Lord,
།ཁྱོད་ལས་རེ་ས་གཞན་མེད་པས།
khyöd lay résa zhen meypay Because I have no one else in whom to place my hopes other than you,
།འདི་ནས་བྱང་ཆུབ་མ་ཐོབ་བར།
dinay jangch’up mat’op bar From now until I attain enlightenment,
།བརྩེ་ཆེན་ཐུགས་ཀྱིས་རྗེས་གཟུང་མཛོད།
tséch’en t’uk kyii jeyzung dzöd
Please look after me with your mind of great loving-kindness.
།དེ་ལྟར་སྙིང་ནས་གསོལ་བཏབ་མཐུས།
détar nying nay söltap t’ü By the power of praying this way from the heart,
།བླ་མ་འོད་ཞུ་རང་ལ་ཐིམ།
lama öd zhu rang la t’im The Guru melts into light, and absorbs into myself.
།གསང་གསུམ་རྡོ་རྗེའི་བྱིན་བརྒྱ་ཡིས།
sangsum dorjéi jin gya yii Through the hundred Vajra blessings of his Three Secrets,
།སྒོ་གསུམ་བྱིན་གྱིས་བརླབ་པར་གྱུར།
gosum jingyii lappar gyur My own three doors of body, speech and mind are thus consecrated.
[Dedication of Merit:]
།དགེ་བ་འདི་ཡིས་མྱུར་དུ་བདག །
géwa di yii nyurdu dak By this virtue, may I swiftly
།སྤྱན་རས་གཟིགས་དབང་འགྲུབ་གྱུར་ནས།
chenrayzik wang drup gyur nay
Achieve the state of Avalokiteśvara,
།འགྲོ་བ་གཅིག་ཀྱང་མ་ལུས་པ།
drowa chik kyang malüpa And may all living beings, without a single exception,
།དེ་ཡི་ས་ལ་འགོད་པར་ཤོག
dé yi sa la gödpar shok Attain the very same spiritual level.
[Bodhicitta Aspiration Prayer:]
།བྱང་ཆུབ་སེམས་མཆོག་རིན་པོ་ཆེ།
jangch’upsem ch’ok rinpoché May the precious Bodhicitta, the supreme altruistic motivation for enlightenment,
།མ་སྐྱེས་པ་རྣམས་སྐྱེས་གྱུར་ཅིག
makyeypa nam kyey gyur chik Arise for those in whom it has not yet arisen,
།སྐྱེས་པ་ཉམས་པ་མེད་པ་ཡང།
kyeypa nyampa meypa yang And for those in whom it has arisen, may it never diminish,
།གོང་ནས་གོང་དུ་འཕེལ་བར་ཤོག །།
gong nay gong du p’elwar shok But always increase, ever further and further.
ཅེས་པ་འདི་ཡང་ྋརྒྱལ་དབང་སྐུ་ཕྲེང་བཅུ་བཞི་པ་ཆེན་པོས་མཛད་པའོ།།
